The Team

The authors of Ruling Ourselves are a loosely connected group of friends and acquaintances scattered across North America. Coming from a variety of backgrounds and professions, we are familiar with multiple facets of the challenge of governance. Separately, we’ve all confronted the idea that these vast and complex problems may be insoluble. Nonetheless, we pooled our efforts to chart a pragmatic course toward a better future. We sought possibilities for hope that could withstand our measured skepticism.

Unexpectedly, in the pursuit of this goal, our team evolved patterns of self-governance that dramatically improved our thinking and our work. We deliberately sought a diversity of perspectives and opinions; we read widely to discover and fill the many gaps in our knowledge; and most importantly, we employed a system of adversarial collaboration and cross-validation intended to expose every idea to several independent rounds of scrutiny by our peers. We’re proud of the ideas that emerged from our efforts and we hope that they prove useful.
